Do You care about EDUCATION? Without education, the cycle of poverty that has devastated generations of black South African families cannot be broken. Girls living in poor rural communities are especially vulnerable and without the power that a good education can provide, they remain at risk of abuse, starvation and turning to crime as a way to live.
This is a fundraiser to help a 12 year old girl, Snenhlanla Gasa (born one day apart from my daughter, Isabella Heitner) who lives in a rural part of South Africa called Limpopo with her grandmother, mother and 3 siblings. Her father deserted the family many years ago, and her mother suffers from depression, substance abuse, and has just had another baby. Sne was attending a local village school, with very poor national ratings, and a 0% matriculation pass rate.
Our family wanted to help Sne by helping her attend a boarding school in Johannesburg where she can live near her aunt, Bongi, a very strong and positive person in her life.
Isabella has chosen to Blog about Sne's story to raise awareness and to fundraise as her Bat Mitzvah project.
By donating to this fundraiser, you would be helping educate Sne at St. Mary's School, one of the best schools in Johannesburg and giving her an opportunity to be more in control of her own path, and to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness that is destroying so many poor rural South Africans.

Isabella's fundraising dollars are donated to the Foundation. There is currently no American Charity conduit (previously The American Fund for Charities was acting as the intermediary but it has shut down unfortunately). If you are interested in making a gift that would be tax exempt, please email me and I will let you know when this becomes available again.
$10 would provide food for 3 days
$25 would buy a pair of shoes or school supplies
$40 would pay for transport for Sne to go home and visit her family by public transport
$50 and up would help support school fees and boarding
