Hello all. For those of you that don’t know, 2 and a half months ago I contracted a condition called Ataxia. In my case, it attacks my nerves and left my feet, and hands completely numb. Very little has changed in all this time. I spent the first 2 weeks in the hospital, and the rest in a rehab clinic. I’ve been doing PT every day, with progress, but it is very slow. I can stand with the help of a pole, and transfer to a wheelchair. I’ve been trying to take steps with a walker, and the parallel bars. So far I’ve taken about 10 steps until I have to sit. Then there’s the hands. I can text with my thumb, using a fork is doable but challenging. We have insurance, thanks to my beautiful wife, but it only covers me until January 24th. I’ll then go home where Mary will be my caregiver. I may never fully recover, but my goal is to walk with a cane at least, and be able to write etc. it’s going to be a long road ahead. We are going to have to rent a hospital bed, and other equipment for the house, as well as the cost of living for what appears to be several months. Asking for any donations large or small.
