UpTown Mural Initiative by CON-TRON

Hello, my name is Connor Ryan Degnan, a local Toledo native, artist, and gallerist. Specializing in colorful abstract art, I am most interested in exploring the beauty of creation itself. I have been painting for about 9 years and doing murals since 2017, with about a dozen notable public murals around the area, in Downtown Toledo, East Toledo, Perrysburg and more. The initiative I am organizing revolves around painting a new large-scale mural (see cover photo) in Uptown in Toledo, at 1212 Madison Ave. I’ve worked with & gained permission from long-time community members & building owners MadVektor to design a brand new abstract mural for their 3-story building, facing Downtown. We only have one thing stopping it from happening - funding. I am working with The City Of Toledo to allocate funding. However, the only available grant will still fall short even if I receive it. This mural will significantly impact the community by adding a new and unique mural to Toledo's ever-growing public art movement. There are no other murals directly on Madison St. nearby this location, and it will be the forefront of a new positive, creative energy on that block, adding to the exciting growth of public art in Uptown. I believe painting murals bring the community in which they are a feeling of pride, safety and beauty, which helps those in the area feel a sense of importance and wellness, whether living next door or just driving through.

 

The money raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to funding the project itself, and I do not expect to profit. I want to do my part to affect the community positively with my artistic outlet, and the only way I know how is to ask the community that has helped me so much for help. Any donation, large or small, is appreciated beyond words, and all donors should feel pride in helping fund the development of public mural art in Toledo.

 

Here is a generalized description of what supplies I will need and what they will cost to make this happen. I anticipate the mural will take up to 4 weeks to complete.

 

1. Boom Lift Rental - $1,045 per week (not including diesel gas)

2. Paint (primer, spray paint) - $1200-$1800

3. Painting supplies - Roller equipment, pads, trays ($100), masking tape ($200), lumber crayons, construction pencils ($20) spray caps. ($20) yardstick, tape measure ($20)

4. Safety equipment - harness, gloves, ect. ($75)

Estimated Total: $5,900-$6,500

 

Even if I cannot reach the entire funding goal, any amount will help us get closer and closer to making this project a reality.
