Upstairs Downstairs Antique has been on Charles Street since 1992. Our store was one of the founders of the Beacon Hill Christmas Stroll. I have been the owner since 2011. Our store has always been known for affordable antiques and local art. We have been a member of the the Beacon Hill Community for many years and have supported many local organizations during my ownership. In order for us to survive, we need your help NOW!
Our business has been affected by COVID-19 starting as early as January 2020. We depend on foot traffic for our business, consisting of local folks as well as tourists. Our governor, Charlie Baker, asked us to close our store as of March 24th until May 4th, but we understand and expect this date to extend significantly longer. Our business has felt the effects of COVID-19 before March 24th, as tourists delayed travel to Boston due the effects of the international pandemic. My staff include folks in a higher risk category and due to preventive measures, most of my staff stopped working on March 15th. We are not an online store although we have attempted to list items.
In addition to the COVID-19 injury, a section of the store was recently flooded by a Boston utility company while they were working on a fire hydrant on 3/10/20 and 3/11/20. The damage and the needed construction to bring the section of the store back to a functional state is not covered by any insurance. This has caused more financial burden adding to the overall injury of the COVID-19 damage.
