Uprooted by War, Hoping for a Fresh Start

Introduction
My name is Nikita, and two years ago, my life was drastically changed by Russia's invasion of my home country, Ukraine. At that time, I was studying translation at an academy in Greece, unaware that the simple act of going abroad for education would later save my life.
My Story
On January 24th, 2022, I flew to Greece to continue my education. Exactly one month later, on February 24th, war broke out. Had I delayed my departure, I would have been unable to leave Ukraine, as borders were immediately closed to all male citizens aged 18 and above. I would have been conscripted into military service — something I deeply wished to avoid.
The invasion has profoundly disrupted my life. I lost touch with family and friends, becoming isolated as communication became extremely difficult. Tragically, some people close to me lost their lives. Overwhelmed by stress and grief, I had no choice but to leave my studies and find refuge elsewhere.
My Current Situation
Eventually, I found safety through Canada's CUAET program, allowing me to come here and start over. However, I am now facing another serious challenge. My Ukrainian bank recently froze my assets, demanding an in-person verification — an impossible requirement, as returning would mean mandatory military conscription and putting my life in direct danger.
Without access to these essential funds, my ability to sustain myself in Canada is in jeopardy. I'm struggling to afford housing, daily living expenses, and the critical mental health support I need due to the immense emotional strain I've endured.
How Your Support Will Help
Any contribution will directly support my immediate and essential needs:
• Basic living expenses (food, transportation, daily essentials)
• Secure housing
• Mental health care and emotional support services
• Assistance in re-establishing my academic or professional path in Canada
Closing Thoughts
Every donation, no matter the amount, significantly helps me regain the stability I've lost. Your kindness will help rebuild my future, providing hope after the upheaval I've experienced. Thank you deeply for taking the time to hear my story, and for any help you can offer.
