My friend's granddaughter, Harper Jade, was born June 12, 2026. Her newborn blood screening revealed she has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Type 1, a rare neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord and impacts the health and strength of the muscles.
