UPPER MAIN ARM FLOOD RELIEF

Upper Main Arm, Main Arm, and Palmwoods in the Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia have been devastated by immense flooding and massive landslides.
Numerous homes have been completely destroyed, some buried under hundreds of tonnes of rock and earth. Roads disappeared and turned into rivers. People were trapped in their homes and properties due to the immense destruction.
Some in our community have lost everything.
Kohinur Hall in Upper Main Arm has operated as an emergency and recovery hub throughout the disaster supplying food, water, medical support, material donations, heavy machinery, shelter, power, communications, mental health support and volunteer deployment.
It is the first point of contact for ADF personnel, Local Government Authorities, and Emergency Services.
Local organisers with extensive disaster response experience mobilised volunteers in the first weeks of the disaster to search the valleys to ensure all members of the community were safe. Community-led teams were deployed to deliver generators, fuel, food, water, and medical supplies to those in the cut-off, isolated and damaged areas.
In the words of the New South Wales State Emergency Service Zone Commander: ”The local response and coordination from the Main Arm Community has been gold standard.”
Our Community needs financial support to recover and build emergency infrastructure to protect our valleys.
The Main Arm Disaster Recovery Committee is building a comprehensive emergency response plan to repair our damaged community infrastructure and prepare a coordinated response to future events.
