My name is Jamie Gorski and I am a middle school theatre arts teacher in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I have been a public educator for 22 years and have taught courses in English and Theatre Arts. I am raising funds to help my middle school theatre auditorium get new lighting and sound equipment. Our school is over 20 years old and much of the equipment is either out-of-date or unfixable. I want to have equipment that will help my students learn how sound engineering works in a performance space, as well as acquiring practical skills in using microphones professionally (both dynamic and condenser microphones) and creating sound design projects through programs such as QLab. We currently only have one working microphone in our auditorium. In addition, I have 10 LED lights that have no way of working, because we do not have a light board that can support DMX lighting. Our auditorium also does not have a follow spot. The one we have is unfixable. We are a public school, so unfortunately funds for repair and restoration are difficult to come by. Any donation made to my request is helping my school's 700+ students get an opportunity to work on 21st century schools, which sets them up for better opportunities and a better future.
