Cristina's UPenn College Fund
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I started this GoFundMe after seeing the amazing support my story received on Humans of New York! This is being created as a way for me to be able to pay for my college tuition and fees at the University of Pennsylvania where I will be a Nursing major in the School of Nursing! There are some things Brandon had to cut out so here I wanted to show a bigger picture of myself.
I am from Southern California and attended Costa Mesa High School. I am a proud child of Mexican immigrants and when I look back on my high school experience I truly just want to be seen as an inspiration. So often for my community, we tend to just focus on the next day and not the next years of our lives that I never ever, knew anyone who went to an Ivy Leauge school. As a matter of fact, my parents don't even understand what it means. They think that I'm going to the East Coast because I want to and not because of what it means for us as a culture.
To me, it means that I get to be an inspiration. Everyone who has even heard of me will be able to say they knew someone who went to an Ivy League and that is powerful. My small mostly Latino high school would have a memory of someone who worked hard and got out. Someone who was able to follow her dreams. And someone who was just like them.
If you believe in me, or why I am pursuing higher education, or have the means, please feel free to help a girl out. I set the goal now at $60k but really I'm taking out about $30k a year in loans. This is because even though my brother and sister went to college they live at home now and have their own debt to deal with yet FAFSA doesn't understand that so my EFC was about $30k. Anything helps!
