Hello friends, family, and anyone else who happens to come across this. Let me start by thanking you for even taking the time to open this and share a minute of your day with me.
I am sharing this with yall in hopes of receiving some assistance as I am looking at having a surgical procedure and unfortunately starting to get in over my head with medical expenses.
In November 2022, I found out from a routine pap smear that abnormal cells had been discovered. This led to a biopsy which showed these were positive high-grade cervical lesions that, if left untreated, can cause cervical cancer. I decided with my gynecologist to undergo a quick in-office procedure to essentially scrape off the outer layer of my cervix and hopefully clear out these cells.
Fast-forward to now, my 6-month follow-up pap smear, unfortunately, showed that these cells completely grew back and multiplied. I was referred to a wonderful oncologist whose specialty is gynecology with the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, she feels that the best next step in this ordeal is a surgical procedure called a LEEP procedure. This is an outpatient surgery which will be a more in-depth removal and cauterization of the lower part of my cervix and has a 90% success rate in removing these pre-cancerous cells. My oncologist feels this will provide me with the best outcome however scheduled this fairly quickly due to the nature of how quickly it seems these cells are multiplying and spreading. My surgery date is set for Tuesday, August 15th, which is rapidly approaching.
Now here we are as to why this gofundme was created. While insurance is covering the brunt of the cost, like any surgery, especially a specialty surgery, there are still parts not covered by insurance. Unfortunately, I feel a bit in over my head with these rapidly growing expenses following increased doctor visits and now the cost of this impending surgery and follow-ups after. It has been tough to go from being able to provide for myself to now having building costs, unexpected expenses and debt starting to accrue.
At 28 years old this is certainly a scary position to be in medically as I still hope to one day grow my family and unfortunately, this procedure can carry over risks of complications for successful pregnancy and birth. Seeing these increasing amounts of balances owed is also incredibly overwhelming and scary.
I sincerely appreciate the time you've taken to read this far and wish there was a better way to express the gratitude I have for those who have lent me a helping hand.
