In early December, Kira, my cousins fur baby, suffered an extreme injury while playing—she got too excited and, in the process, tore her meniscus and cruciate ligament (similar to an ACL tear in humans). This type of injury is not only extremely painful but also significantly impacts her ability to walk, run, and enjoy life as she used to. Since then, Kira has been struggling with limited mobility, and we’ve had to restrict her movement to prevent further damage.

After a long and anxious wait to see a specialist, we finally received confirmation from the surgeon that Kira’s knee was severely damaged and that surgery would be necessary to restore her ability to move without pain. Unfortunately, this isn’t a minor procedure—it requires a skilled surgeon and extensive post-operative care. This past week, my cousin Phil received the official quote for the surgery, and we were absolutely shocked to learn that the cost is nearing $10,000.

While we want nothing more than to give Kira the best chance at a full recovery, the financial burden of this surgery is overwhelming.
