UoB PL - World University Championship Fundraiser

Recently, the Women’s University of Birmingham Powerlifting team placed second in the country at BUCS, receiving a place to represent Great Britain at the World University Championships in Estonia in July.
We are currently attempting to raise the funds we need to be able to take a full 8 women team to compete. As we are all students, and this is a self funded sport, this opportunity is heavily dependent on us being able to fund the money to enable the whole team to travel. We will be funding the majority of it ourselves from part time jobs, however, would appreciate any help you would be able to give. This opportunity truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the girls have worked incredibly hard to be able to get this far.
The society started out a few years back with under 10 female lifters, now, we have over 50 female lifters with around 15 qualifying to compete at national level. To put into perspective the amount of training and hard work which the team has put in this year, last year the UoB girls squad placed 9th, this year we have placed 2nd, with 4 podium positions across different weight categories, and multiple British and University records.
Powerlifting has helped so many girls to overcome life obstacles, deal with stress and combat mental health. This team has given endless support to each other and I am truly proud to be have been the President of the society to witness everyone come together. The girls have put in hours (literally a day) to be able to achieve this, and we would love if we could have even the smallest support in getting us to Worlds. I have watched them put in literally blood, sweat and tears at the university gym and it would be amazing to see this effort reflected on an international platform. This sport has provided us with so much joy, happiness and strength. We would love the opportunity to promote the excellence of this sport, and this team, by going to Worlds.
