Save Urban Ore's Healthcare #supportbusinessrelief

Like many local small businesses, Urban Ore has been hit hard by the COVID-19 virus. We are an essential business because we sell hardware and household supplies. Due to the shelter in place directive, we have been faced with a severe drop in sales coupled with a serious staffing shortage. We now have an emergency situation on our hands trying to figure out how to pay important bills, including healthcare for 29 of our full-time employees.

Urban Ore chooses to take care of its people with paid healthcare because it is very labor intensive to keep our operation going. In the process of circulating materials through the local economy, we create 43 jobs, whereas burying the same materials in a landfill only requires some heavy equipment and a handful of people. Employees’ dependents are also covered under the plan. Some of our staff have big families, and the healthcare package is an important benefit that means a lot to them. We are “green collar” workers that have been steadily facing the dramatic rise of the cost of living in the Bay Area, and the pressure to survive is very real.

We hope to weather the storm and be there for the community during the healing process. Urban Ore intends to be a 100-year-old company so that it can achieve its mission “to end the age of waste” and provide economic, environmental, social, and community benefits for generations to come.

We are able to provide a reusable, 100% cotton, made in the U.S.A. Urban Ore tote bag for every $100 contribution!

Even if you can't make a donation, PLEASE SHARE this page with your networks -- any people or organizations that might want to make a contribution. From the Urban Ore family, thank you so much for your support! This is a historic event, and our efforts during this challenging time of need will be remembered.
