Since 2012, Talia has made it her goal to raise funds for the orphans of Morocco. After returning from Morocco, Talia at age 5 was able to truly reflect on life here in North America and realized she had more than enough and wanted to share. Over the years each of you have supported her with your donations and words of encouragement and Talia hopes you will help her once again in 2016. What began as simply donating her birthday money has grown into bigger plans.
Her story has inspired other children to be charitable and giving to those in need. It is in the spirit of Islam and our tradition that we incorporate into our lives the fundamental values of generosity, charity and helping others. We hope you will support Talia's Wish or find a way to help someone who is in need young or old, family or friend, stranger, organization and make a difference. Talia's wish is not only about her goal, it is about collectively warming the hearts of young boys and girls living in institutions without parents and letting them know there are people that know they exist and care.
A Message from Talia:
"Hi Everyone, thank you for saving some of your kindness for my wish for the orphans of Morocco. Each year you have helped me with sending money for milk, shoes and warm clothing and every year you have helped me double the donation. This year I want our money to got towards shoes and education. I watched a movie called "Children of Heaven" with my family and it made me realize how lucky we are to have our families to get us a new pair of shoes whenever ours too small or worn out. In this movie, Zara and Ali must share shoes to go to school, please watch it and think about how you can give the children a chance to go to school. I think your kids would love this movie! We are also learning about AKDN at REC and all the ways the services help not only Ismailis but people from all faiths who need some help. This is my way of helping, hoping you can join me in making these children smile when they get their shoes."
At this time, the donations are collected are sent through a local volunteer. We are still working on either establishing a non-profit or becoming part of a larger organization, time has not been on our side. If your heart so desires, please click gofundme.com/unv4h3fx and make a difference. This year funds raised will buy shoes and cover tuition and cost of supplies at orphanage schools in Casablanca. Last year, you helped raise close to $1500.00, thank you. Talia's goal is to pass $2000 this year. Imagine what we could do together, if we each donated what we would spend for a meal out, a cup of coffee or a new pair of shoes?
This year the annual event will be held at the end of April in Chicago. Her goal is to present a check to the organization by April 25. Please email me if you want to pledge an amount so I can include your name in a message to the Orphans of Lalla Hasane.
