Swimming the Distance – 21 Miles in 21 Days!
Hi, I’m Rev. Simon from St Leonards Church in Penwortham, and this August I’m setting myself the challenge: to swim 21 miles in 21 days – the same distance as crossing the English Channel – all to raise vital funds for our church.
That’s 1,344 lengths of a 25m pool… and I’ll be doing it at Total Fitness Gym, logging my progress with my fitness watch so you can follow along.
Why I’m Doing This
Our church plays a vital role at the heart of the community – offering worship, welcome, care, and support to people of all ages and stages of life. From baptisms and weddings to school visits, we are here for everyone.
But keeping the church open, warm, safe, and welcoming doesn’t come without cost. Rising energy bills, building maintenance, and ongoing ministry expenses mean we’re always looking for creative ways to raise money.
That’s where this challenge comes in.
How the Funds Will Help
Every penny raised will go directly towards helping our church:
• Maintain the building so it’s safe and accessible
• Support our children’s and youth work
• Fund community events and outreach
• Cover running costs so we can continue to serve well
If you can sponsor me – with a little or a lot – you’ll be helping the church continue to make a big difference in our local community.
Thank you so much for your support. Keep an eye on the updates, and cheer me on as I hit the pool – one length at a time!
Let’s make a splash together!
