Untrash East Bay is dedicated to restoring our natural places, and building community.
Our mission is to solve the trash problem at its roots: by changing the social norms, and fixing the structural problems that drive littering and dumping.
We start by cleaning up trashed areas, then we then we work to put in place solutions that reduce littering and dumping permanently. We take an experimental and data-driven approach, and have trialed many different interventions designed to reduce trashing. Our goal is to eliminate trashing permanently.
Since launching in early 2020, we've organized over 130 cleanups, and removed 1300 bags of trash, 46 tires, 31 large pieces of furniture, and 4 truckloads of construction waste. We've also grown the organization to 400 people, and earned the appreciation and thanks from thousands in our community.
Our current fundraising is to support the creation of a network of Untrash groups here in the Bay Area, to broaden our impact.
