Hello, my name was Betsy Paige Monroe. My mother's name is Angelica Rodriguez. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was a rescue, abused my whole life until God placed me with my mom. I endured multiple beatings, kicks, was malnourished, and kept in unsanitary conditions. Little did I know I was put on Craigslist and being sold for $200. My name was Princess, I weighed 5 lbs (supposedly), and was in poor health. My mom always wanted a small dog to spend her life with. Thank God my aunt and mema bought me from that terrible family. I remember my first meal was “chicken nuggets” from Wendy’s. I was starving. I cried so much as I ate because I knew I was going to be loved and taken care of. I was taken to the dog spa and vet to get checked. At the vet, mema was told that I already had arthritis and rotating hips, which caused me to walk funny. All because I had such a miserable first year of life. Little did I know I was supposed to be a gift for my mom's birthday. I was even bought a cute pink sparkly sweater. I looked super cute. So the same night she came over to mema’s house, I was given to her. My mom started crying at first. I was scared, but I started feeling safe because I felt something I had never felt before. I was finally feeling love, warmth, and being safe.
I had many wonderful years with my new family. Lots of love. I was spoiled and blessed. My health started changing about a year ago. I was 10 years old when I started having a bad cough. The vet told my mom that I had a heart condition and had to be on meds for the rest of my life. Of course, my mom did everything she could so that I could be okay, even though it was extremely expensive. For the next year and a half, I was taking meds and having constant tests and scans. Mom would cry because she didn't know what to do. She was doing everything possible.
On September 3rd, 2024, I was not feeling well. I was coughing and coughing. I was gagging and couldn't catch my breath. Even though mema gave me medicine, I was still declining. On September 4th, 2024, my mema called my mom at work and told her that I needed to go to the ER ASAP. Once I was there, I felt so nervous; mom was crying. They were going to keep me!! I had water in my lungs, and my heart was not doing well under the pressure. I was on oxygen, and they told my mom that they were going to give me meds for the water. She gave me a kiss and left crying her eyes out because, of course, I'm her baby. Then I took a turn for the worse. At 2:45 PM, mom gets a phone call from the vet. They wanted permission to start CPR on me! I had trouble breathing; my heart was failing. My mom said yes as she rushed there with mema. I remember them calling my name, but it was so far away. They put tubes down my throat and my nose. I feel the air, but I'm so tired. My mema came in with mom to see me. I could see them crying and talking to the doctor. Mom had to make a difficult decision. The chances of me living were gone. I only had a short time before I crossed the Rainbow Bridge. They had taken out my breathing tube. I was having a hard time catching my breath. Mom wanted me to wait for my aunts to come. They tried to hurry. I was so sleepy. I could hear my mom, aunt, and mema saying how much they love me and that it was going to be okay; everyone was waiting for me in heaven. While my mom was holding my hand, I took my last breath.
My mom needs your support. My care was so expensive. This GoFundMe is to help with my bills and my cremation. Every little bit counts. There is no amount that is too big or too little. It takes a village to raise a child, and I was my mom’s only baby.
Please help her put me to rest. Thank you and God bless.
