ÜBER AN CARRA
An Carra ist eine Folkband, die sich während ihres Musikstudiums auf Uist auf den Äußeren Hebriden Schottlands kennengelernt hat. Wir haben uns ursprünglich 2022 für Sheenas Abschlussaufführung in An Lanntair, Stornoway, zusammengefunden. Nach diesem Konzert war uns klar, dass wir etwas Besonderes schaffen und weiterführen wollen. In diesem Sommer hatten wir unsere erfolgreiche Debüt-Tour durch Deutschland, unterstützt von vielen großzügigen Familienmitgliedern und Freunden. Unsere Musik wird von der Verschmelzung unserer individuellen kulturellen und musikalischen Erfahrungen in Deutschland und Schottland inspiriert und wurde hervorragend aufgenommen. Jetzt planen wir, unsere EP noch vor Ende des Jahres zu veröffentlichen und sie unserem Publikum in Präsenz und online anzubieten. Durch unsere EP kann man das mitreißende Konzerterlebnis von An Carra durch einen polierten akustischen Klang und viele selbst geschriebene Kompositionen erleben.
Unsere CD ist einzigartig, weil es uns gelingt, unsere Einflüsse zu verschmelzen und ein aufregendes Hörerlebnis für jeden Musikliebhaber zu schaffen, unabhängig von Ihrem Musikgeschmack. Zusätzlich ermöglicht uns unsere Instrumentation, neue musikalische Ideen, spezielle Arrangements und einen Klang zu schaffen, der authentisch für unsere persönlichen Charaktere ist. Mit Liedern in Englisch, Friesisch und Plattdeutsch verbinden wir Kulturen auf bisher ungekannte Weise und erzählen Geschichten aus der Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Reels, Jigs und Strathspeys sind ein weiterer wichtiger Bestandteil unserer Sets und sind abwechslungsreich und aufregend, sodass Sie sofort Lust haben, in Ihrem Wohnzimmer zu tanzen. Einfache Melodien und Rhythmen sowie unser emotionaler Gesang strahlen in dieser EP durch den Einsatz unserer eigenen Kompositionen.
Wir verwenden das Geld, um die Kosten für die Erstellung und das Mastering des Albums, die Erstellung des Albumcovers sowie das Drucken und Lizenzieren von CDs zu decken. Als Band, die während einer globalen Pandemie entstanden ist, ist es für uns unmöglich, all diese Ausgaben selbst zu tragen, dennoch wäre es ein großer Schritt in unserer Karriere, ein Album veröffentlichen zu können. Wir glauben, dass faire Bezahlung in der Kreativindustrie unerlässlich ist, und möchten daher alle, die an diesem Projekt teilnehmen, für ihre Arbeit bezahlen können. Wir schätzen jeden sehr, der unser Projekt unterstützen kann, und hoffen, die Wiederbelebung der Folk-Musik und Kultur mit unserer Aufnahme positiv beeinflussen zu können.

Über Sheena
Sheena Peteranna ist eine erfahrene Dudelsackspielerin und Flötistin aus South Uist, Schottland. Ihr Repertoire und ihre Technik wurden von den bekannten und hochgelobten Tutoren Iain MacDonald (von den MacDonald-Brüdern von Glenuig) und James Duncan MacKenzie (Lewis) geprägt. Ihr gefällt es, den Stil der Dudelsäcke auf andere Holzblasinstrumente zu übertragen und damit in verschiedenen musikalischen Kontexten zu experimentieren. Sie hat auf vielen international renommierten Festivals gespielt, darunter Celtic Colors, Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Festival und Celtic Connections. Sie war Mitglied vieler anerkannter Folkgruppen, darunter Feis Rois, Far Flung Collective und der Argyll Ceilidh Trail.
Über Emilia
Von der Insel Foehr an der Westküste Norddeutschlands stammend, ist Emilia Marienfeld eine Geigerin, Sängerin und Pianistin, die in einer musikalischen Umgebung durch ihre Eltern aufgewachsen ist. Seit 2018 lebt sie in Schottland und hat auf Festivals wie Celtic Connections gespielt und die gälische Musikszene in den Äußeren Hebriden mit Unterricht von Alan Henderson und Iain McDonald erkundet. Darüber hinaus setzt sie sich für die Erhaltung und Förderung der friesischen Musik ein und schreibt und spielt viele ihrer eigenen Kompositionen auf Friesisch. In Deutschland ist sie seit vielen Jahren Mitglied des folkBaltica Ensembles und tritt bei international renommierten Festivals wie dem Tonder Festival und dem folkBaltica Festival auf. Zusätzlich arbeitet sie mit dänischen Musikern zusammen, um traditionelle Musik von der Westküste Deutschlands und Dänemarks zu fördern, und hat bereits in den letzten zwei Jahren erfolgreiche Auftritte beim folkBaltica Festival kreiert.
Über Marit
Marit Schöpel ist Trompeterin, Sängerin und Bassistin aus dem Norden Deutschlands, Angeln. Während ihre Kompositionen und ihr Klang von klassischer und Jazzmusik beeinflusst sind, konzentriert sie sich auf traditionelle Musik. Da die Trompete kein gängiges Folkinstrument in Schottland oder Norddeutschland ist, hat sie ihren eigenen Spielstil entwickelt. Sie ist langjähriges Mitglied des folkBaltica Ensembles und hat auf international renommierten Festivals wie dem Tonder Festival, dem folkBaltica Festival und den Wellenklaenge, Lunz am See, gespielt.
Über Lauren
Lauren Mowat ist Gitarristin, Flötistin und Dudelsackspielerin aus Melvich, Schottland. Sie interessiert sich seit ihrer Jugend für traditionelle Musik und hat an ihren örtlichen Feis-Kursen und der Pipe-Band teilgenommen. Sie hat von den angesehenen Tutoren Alasdair Turner (von Tide Lines) und Iain MacDonald (von den MacDonald-Brüdern von Glenuig) gelernt. Sie war Teil des Fèis air an Oir Ceilidh Trail und trat kürzlich beim Edinburgh International Festival auf.

ABOUT AN CARRA:
An Carra are a folk and traditional band that met whilst studying music on Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. We initially came together in 2022 for Sheena’s bachelors performance at An Lanntair, Stornoway. Following this, we realised that we were creating something special and that we wanted to explore more. That summer, we embarked on our successful debut tour around Germany, with the help of many generous family and friends. Our music is inspired by the coming together of our individual cultural and musical experiences in both Germany and Scotland, and has been excellently received so far. Now, we plan on releasing our EP before the end of the year, offering it to our in-person and online audiences. Our EP will recreate the compelling concert experience of An Carra, through a polished acoustic sound and the sharing of many self-penned compositions.
Our record is unique because we manage to meld our influences and create an exciting listening experience for every listener, no matter what your music taste is. Additionally, our instrumentation allows us to create new musical ideas, special arrangements and a sound that is authentic to our personal characters. With songs in English, Frisian and Low German, we connect cultures in ways unseen before and similarly we tell stories from the past and present. Reels, jigs and strathspeys form another important part of our sets and are variable and exciting, making you want to dance around your living room. Simple melodies and rhythms and our emotive and heartfelt singing shine in this EP, through the use of our own compositions.
We are using the money to cover the costs of creating and mastering the album, the creation of album artwork as well as printing and licensing CDs. As a band emerging during the cost of living crisis, it is impossible for us to cover all these expenses ourselves, yet it would be a huge step in our career to be able to release an album. We believe that fair pay is essential in the creative industries and therefore want to be able to pay everyone involved in this project for their work. We highly appreciate anyone that can support our project and hope to positively impact the revival of folk music and culture with our record.

About Sheena
Sheena Peteranna is an experienced piper and flautist from South Uist, Scotland. Her repertoire and technique were shaped by her widely admired and praised tutors Iain MacDonald (of the MacDonald brothers of Glenuig) and James Duncan MacKenzie (Lewis). She enjoys transferring the style of the bagpipes onto other wind instruments and experimenting with this in different musical contexts. She has performed at many internationally renowned festivals including Celtic Colors, Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk festival and Celtic Connections. She has been a part of many recognised folk groups including Feis Rois, Far Flung Collective, and the Argyll Ceilidh Trail.
About Emilia
From the Island of Foehr in the West coast of North Germany, Emilia Marienfeld is a fiddler, singer and pianist who grew up surrounded by music through her parents. She has been based in Scotland since 2018 and has been involved in performing at festivals such as Celtic Connections, as well as exploring the Gaelic Music scene in the Outer Hebrides with tuition by Alan Henderson and Iain McDonald. Furthermore, she is working on preserving and promoting Frisian music, writing and performing many of her own compositions in Frisian. In Germany she has been involved in the folkBaltica Ensemble for many years, with performances at the internationally acclaimed Tonder Festival and folkBaltica Festival. Lastly she is working with Danish musicians to promote traditional music from the West coast of Germany and Denmark and has created successful performances at the folkBaltica Festival.
About Marit
Marit Schöpel is a trumpeter, singer, and bassist from the North of Germany, Anglia. While her playing and sound are influenced by classical and jazz music, she focuses on traditional music. As the trumpet is not a common instrument in Scottish or North German traditional music, she created her own style of playing. She is a long-standing member of the folkBaltica Ensemble and has performed on internationally acclaimed festivals such as Tonder Festival, folkBaltica Festival, and Wellenklaenge, Lunz am See.
About Lauren
Lauren Mowat is a guitarist, whistle player and piper from Melvich, Scotland. She has had an interest in traditional music from a young age, being involved in her local Feis classes and pipe band. She has learned from the reputable tutors Alasdair Turner (of Tide Lines) and Iain MacDonald (of the MacDonald brothers of Glenuig). She has performed as part of the Fèis air an Oir Ceilidh Trail and recently featured at the Edinburgh International Festival.
