Life Comes With So Many Possibilities. Think about the first time you fell in love. Imagine your favorite movie, your favorite song, your favorite meal, or your favorite place to travel. Recall the first time you made love. Relive that particular concert when you couldn’t stop smiling, or that time when you laughed so hard you snorted. Imagine what it might be like to brighten someone’s day, make a difference in the world, or perhaps even help deliver a baby.
Now STOP. Take away all those possibilities or moments to come. Because every day when someone dies in a shooting, that terrible reality comes to light. They don’t get another fantastic movie. They don’t get to go camping and fishing again. They don’t get more time with a special pet. They’ll never be intimate with someone they love, ever again. Or worse, they’re never allowed those experiences in the first place. They are denied their own life.
So many words are left unspoken. So many experiences are left unrealized. So many voids.
I am making a short film entitled Unsaid. Unsaid is about what happens to those people who lose their loved ones to sudden, terrible violence, and the permanent void which is immediately created. The loss of a future. The loss of hope and the horrific knowing that there is no final opportunity for closure.
Unsaid is not an anti-gun short. Unsaid is a film which will show how violence affects those loved ones who remain, and how it immediately thrusts family, friends, neighbors, and even law-enforcement officers into a brutal, heart-achingly cold reality.
I am so frustrated by our collective lack of movement on attempting to save more lives from gun-related violence. Unsaid is my small way of reminding us all (myself included) that we owe it to each other, and to ourselves, to find our shared humanity. To make a better effort to protect one another. To walk forward together with compassion, empathy, and love.
This short film is not for profit. My intent with Unsaid is to share it with film festivals and the public, in the hope it starts conversations and further connects us as people. People who value life’s possibilities. People who want their futures, and the futures of those around them, to move forward with a greater chance of being fulfilled. I hope you will support me on this journey and I truly look forward to sharing the film with you.
