Our story..
On Monday 17th February, Bleu began to get upset, and wasn’t his usual self. By Tuesday I noticed Bleu was walking a lot slower than usual and not his energetic self. We decided to crate rest and take him to the vets on Wednesday 19th February, where we got the news Bleu had been diagnosed with Stage One IVDD. Bleu got given medication and told to crate rest. Fast forward to Friday 21st February, and after getting Bleu out of his crate, his back legs had completely gone, resulting in him not being able to hold his own weight or stand on his back legs. We went straight to the vets where we got told Bleu within 8 hours had now been diagnosed at stage three IVDD. Without any surgery, we would need to have Bleu put to sleep…he’s 4 years old, and this was never on option for us. On Saturday 22nd February, Bleu got taken over an hour away from where we live to have an emergency CT scan and surgery. All seemed ‘ok’ until the following morning, when we got a phone call off the vets to inform us Bleu wasn’t recovering as well as they had hoped. Unfortunately, Bleu had gained a blood clot and had to be rushed back for surgery as he needed more disc removing from his back.
Bleu’s surgery alone is a total of £5000!
He has started physio to gain muscle back in his legs and he is learning to walk all over again. Bleu was only covered in the doggy hospital for 3 days, and now unfortunately it is an extra £200 per night, and as it stands Bleu is in for 2 extra nights (we pray no longer) as we just want him home.
Due to Bleu needing extra medication, we have been charged an extra £1152. Meaning overall nearly £7000 we need to pay out, and sadly our insurance only covers £3000.
We are asking if anyone could kindly donate to ensure Bleu has the best life, recovery, and equipment to support him, as we have a minimum 12 week recovery period after he is home.
Thank you to anyone for reading this page xx
