Hayley is three years old and has level three Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, & Hyper Mobility. We're raising money to help train her therapy dog, Bob, an English cocker spaniel.
Thanks to the amazing work done so far with our friends and families, we've now paid for Bob and his first lot of obedience. This page is staying active so we can raise funds for vet bills, and his service dog training!
An Autism Assistance Dog assists with early intervention training to facilitate independence and the skills to manage challenging situations, with less stress.
An Autism Assistance dog promotes positive social interaction and assists in the development of the skills used to enable participation in community, social and recreational activities.
Indeed, there are many benefits for the entire family, including social outings and activities becoming much more possible and less stressful for all.
The benefits are invaluable
Families living with Autism Assistance Dogs have reported the following benefits:
* improved quality and quantity of sleep as the child may wake less with the dog sleeping in his/her room
* positive changes in the child’s behaviour
* comfort for the child
* full public access, including restaurants and shops.
Hayley has had success in bonding with the therapy dog at her OT and speech sessions, and the calming effect as well as sensory impact is something that will assist Hayley in self regulation and social inclusion.
We're doing this privately because it has been decided by NDIS that this isn't a worth while investment for Hayley, but we know better. We're asking for some help to get Bob starting his training.
