I am Stacey Wesney and I am starting this fund in hopes to raise money so that my nephew Owen, who is autistic and non-verbal, can secure a much needed communication device.

Unfortunately, insurance companies do not see such a device as a need, even for a child who is non-verbal and can't communicate the things he needs to in life. The Augmentative and Alternative Communication device costs approximately $9,000 each. A small price for a lifetime of communication, but too high of a price for families to pay out-of-pocket.

We have tried to secure funds through a grant, using local businesses. However, they do not give to individuals, only groups. So we are now reaching out through this GoFundMe, in hopes of raising the needed funds to purchase this life changing device that will not only change Owen's life and make it easier for him, but also for those who care for him daily to be able to communicate with him.

According to local speech pathologists, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) devices will meet the unmet communication needs for Owen. The devices are programmed to grow with the children's ability levels and to be used at home, school and in the community. This device will grow with Owen and function for him well into adulthood.

Every child deserves to live life being able to communicate his or her needs, even when they were born without the ability to do so. Our family will greatly appreciate every cent donated to help Owen achieve an easier life. God bless.
