Hi and welcome. We (Unlikely Riders) are grateful that you're here. We're currently raising funds for our community gear closet, an initiative created to support our community and crew with safe and solid winter gear for joy, stoke, and healing on snow.
Contributing to this is a direct, actionable effort to address one of the barriers of entry and access to snowsports: the prohibitive cost of gear.
Who We Are: Unlikely Riders is a Vermont BIPOC collective mobilizing our community in finding healing and joy with the mountains while claiming space and existing in our fullness in the snow sports industry and culture.
The Mission: we're using snow sports as vehicles for radical conversations and movements. Our work is to encourage all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to engage in fun, radical joy and offer support to find healing through the mountains while centering our needs and abilities. We are here to provide a BIPOC-led space to safely explore our own identities and interests and to create a culture and community where learning and days on snow are safe, affirming, and joyful.
Current Projects and Goals:
+ represent our community in our diversity of intersections, ability, and interest, and share our stories
+ offer our community easier access to be involved in snow sports by offering a safe space and sharing our resources and experience
+ host educational / skillsharing webinars and trainings
+ create and build mentorship programs, especially for backcountry/alpine touring/splitboarding
+ provide a set of mountain passes for BIPOC folks
+ fund mutual aid support for our community in purchasing winter gear and equipment (hard goods and soft goods)
+ build a sustainable, safe, and accessible grassroots gear closet
'Snow sports' includes: cross country (XC) skiing, biathlon, snowshoeing, alpine/downhill skiing, snowboarding, splitboarding, backcountry skiing and alpine touring, ice skating, and more!
We love to ski and snowboard. It allows us to grow and expand into ourselves and reconnect with the land and that which surrounds us and holds us up. It offers friendship and community. We wish this joy for everyone. Thank you for supporting this vision and work.
