The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) is the largest and oldest student engineering competition in Canada. Since 1974, the goal of this competition has been to build a toboggan with running surfaces made entirely of concrete and then race it against other teams to win the prestigious title of “Fastest Concrete Toboggan”!

From initial conception, to design calculations and final assembly, students get the opportunity to foster their applied knowledge as well as their teamwork and interpersonal skills. The competition is a great opportunity to meet spirited engineering students from across Canada who share a passion for innovation, development, and design.

The University of Ottawa's GNCTR team has once again formed a team and are participating in the 48th annual competition. It will be held in Calgary, Alberta from February 2nd to February 6th of 2022.

With this year’s competition being held in Calgary, the logistical costs associated with shipping and transportation are higher than previous years. Once we cover the project costs, we hope to send up to 20 dedicated team members to the competition to represent the University of Ottawa Faculty of Engineering, where they will participate in team building exercises with students from across the nation, network with industry professionals, and watch their hard work come to fruition on race-day. uOttawa GNCTR’s presence in the academic and social realms has grown to include many events, such as Open Houses, Technical Exhibitions, Design Days, and Student Outreach.

Our participation in GNCTR would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and friends. Thank you very much for your consideration in supporting the uOttawa GNCTR team in the 2022 event.
