University of Manchester Rent Strike Occupiers

University of Manchester 1st year students are currently on a Rentstrike against the university after a series of failings since the year began. From flooding & rat infestations to being fenced in without warning and desperately inadequate mental health support. The university has continued to charge full rent and tuition despite the lack of face-to-face teaching access to educational facilities and the main campus.

After being threatened with fines by the uni for going on rent strike and having their requests for meetings with university management constantly ignored, students decided to occupy the Owens Park Tower on campus.

Students will continue to occupy the tower until Vice Chancellor Nancy Rothwell, agrees to meet with the rentstrikers to discuss our aims and concerns with the university.

We’ve created this solidarity fund to assist those currently taking part in the occupation and any left over funds after the occupation will beused to defend rent strikers against any actionthe university may threaten to take.

In Solidarity,

The UoM Rentstrikers & Occupiers
