I had practiced Chinese medicine for almost twenty years in Johannesburg when I came to the United States with my wife and three of my four children. In order to practice my professionI have to go through an academic programme as a full time student, and for four years I have attended university, paying my own way.
In 2012 I was involved in a motorcar accident in which my wife received severe head injuries, and the other driver, a young man of just eighteen years of age had minimal insurance, insufficient to cover the cost of surgery for my wife. So a large part of the medical costs had to be borne by my family.
My funds are now exhausted, I have at least another year of college to complete, I am owing the university money, and although I work long hours into the night most nights, I am unable to recover financially without your help.
I have explored the options of getting a loan, but I don't qualify for funding as I am a foreigner, and the private institutions that might grant me funding can't, because the university I attend is not listed with the institutions.
If I am unable to pay my outstanding fees within the next two weeks I will not be able to register for the next trimester, in which case my status will lapse and my family and I will be forced to leave the United States.
I have sacrificed everything, including my life savings to bring my wife and children here, and it would devastate my wife and children should we have to leave.
I believe that I have much to offer, I have skill and experience as a doctor of Chinese medicine, and I have a growing number of people whom have benefited from my care and experience.
While it has taken a very long time to adjust to the United States, and to make friends here, I am finally making connections and friends at a time in my life when I'm mostly having to say goodbye to friends, parents, children.
I implore your help in this difficult time, this difficult situation that I find myself in, and will appreciate any help from you truly deeply, in my heart and in my spirit.
