Ajay, my friend and our colleague, reached out to me today with heartbreaking news about his family. For the past six years, his father has been battling brain cancer and has undergone multiple surgeries and therapies in the course of treatment. His latest surgery took place three weeks before the birth of Ajay’s son.

Balancing life between caring for his father, who is in and out of the hospital and experiencing the side effects of cancer treatment (seizures, etc.) and his newborn son, who has demands of his own as a typical newborn, has proven to be very challenging. In addition, Ajay has taken on the financial responsibility for his father’s treatments, which are only partially covered by insurance. Sadly, having undertaken this heavy financial burden has resulted in him having to start selling his personal possessions to help cover the costs, which is only a small portion of what he still owes.
