Dear friends, we are uniting to help our dear friends Liana and Leti Lopez as they support their mom who is very ill.
We want to support them as they face the emotional and financial stress of coming to terms with major life changes while also enjoying every moment of a very loving family.
I personally respect all three of these brilliant, brave and strong women who have changed the world with their vision, hard work, and kindness.
Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say would not be 21 years old and have accomplished as much as it has if one March long ago 2 cool, smart Chicanas showed up to our volunteer meeting, even though it took us month to get back to them after they expressed interest.
Liana and Leti rolled up their sleeves, stuffed envelopes for our snail mail outs, became stage managers, and continued to give and to give to the community. Even if you did not know their names, their imprint was on our showcases, our radio show, and in the power of some of our greatest acts-from the Latino Book and Family Festival-which drew 30,000 people to the George R. Brown Convention Center, to the 2012 Librotraficante Caravan to smuggle banned books back into Arizona, to the Nuestra Palabra Radio Show which broadcasts at 100,000 watts on 90.1 FM KPFT.
And this wisdom, intelligence, and commitment to community is part of the legacy instilled in them by their mom and their late father.
Please join us and make a donation to relieve the financial burden they will face as they take time from work to be with their mom, as they deal with medical issues, as they squeeze in more dear moments together, and as they plan for their mom's transition.
We may not be joined by formal genetic ties, but we are definitely one big familia.
