My name is Mell, and last October I spent a month studying Spanish at San Pedro Spanish School in Guatemala. During my time there, I had the opportunity to meet and learn from my wonderful teacher Ani, who I became very close with. I recently received some very sad news that her husband Carlos has just been diagnosed with lymphoma, at the young age of 30 years old. He will need to receive 7 chemotherapy treatments, which are very expensive in Guatemala. He hasn’t been able to start the treatments yet as they don’t have the money, hence why I’m starting this GoFundMe. The cost per treatment is 15,000 Quetzales (which equals to $1,936.60 US) so the total cost of the 7 treatments will be $13,556.20 US.

In a country like Guatemala, where the wages and incomes are so low, this sum of money has left them feeling defeated as they don’t know how they will be able to raise this kind of money on their own. My goal is to share their story and see if we can all unite together to help Carlos receive his chemotherapy treatments. Mi nombre es Mell y el Octubre pasado estuve estudiando español en la escuela de San Pedro Spanish School en Guatemala. Durante mi tiempo allá, tuve la oportunidad de conocer y aprender de mi maravillosa maestra Ani, con quien tuve una cercanía increíble. Recientemente recibí una noticia muy triste: a su esposo Carlos le han diagnosticado Cancer de linfoma, a la edad joven de 30 años. Necesitará recibir 7 tratamientos de quimioterapia, que son muy costosos en Guatemala. Todavía no ha podido comenzar los tratamientos porque no tienen el dinero, por eso estoy empezando este GoFundMe. El costo por tratamiento es de 15,000 Quetzales (lo que equivale a $1,936.60 US) por lo que el costo total de los 7 tratamientos será de $13,556.20 US.

En un país como Guatemala, donde los salarios y los ingresos son tan bajos, esta suma de dinero los ha dejado sintiéndose derrotados porque no saben cómo podrán recaudar esta cantidad de dinero.
