Union Carpenter, Dennis DeMario Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Above is a photo of our fun-loving, kind, generous, hard-working brother, son, uncle, husband, father, and friend, Dennis DeMario. On May 10th Dennis's life was severely altered as he was in a significant car accident, his vehicle was rear-ended by a dump truck and pushed into oncoming traffic causing him to have a head-on collision with another car. Fortunately, he was revived at the scene and transported by Medivac helicopter to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Among other injuries, Dennis suffered a significant spinal cord injury which has left him paralyzed from the chest down. Dennis spent 42 days in the Intensive Care Unit. After a roller coaster of medical issues, including the use of a ventilator to breathe, he is now stable and has been transferred to Kessler Rehabilitation Institute. We are very grateful that Dennis is alive and ready to begin his recovery.

Dennis has relentlessly fought to regain his ability to breathe on his own, speak, and eat. Also, he is now working to strengthen his body. The current hope is to remove the trachea, feeding peg as well as pins/rods protruding from his arm soon. Dennis has been told to expect a lengthy inpatient stay at Kessler, but he has been given no definitive timetable. Dennis is determined and motivated to one day walk, but only time will tell. Dennis spent his career as a union carpenter in Locals 124 and 253. He will no longer work as a carpenter and being only 54 years old will need to make many life adjustments.

As you can imagine, Dennis and his family will incur significant expenses in connection with his new routine, some of which will not be covered. Please help him if you are able. All donations will be used to transform his home so he can access it while in a wheel-chair and obtain a vehicle for his transportation.

Dennis's family would like to thank the many friends, family, and community members who have reached out to support him through this difficult time. The outpouring of love and encouragement has been overwhelmingly touching to them and instrumental in aiding Dennis's battle to get himself as healthy as possible.
