Hello! In a couple of weeks my GCSE's will be over and I will be heading to Busua in Ghana as a volunteer teacher at the Busua Methodist Primary School. There are approximately 500 children between the ages of 2 and 13 who attend the school and the school requires them to wear a uniform. However, only about 50% of the families are able to afford a uniform which costs between £13-15. The children are fitted for the uniform and a local dress maker cuts and sews the uniform. They take great pride in their uniform and I would like to raise funds so that every child has the opportunity to have one.
In addition, I intend to start a ukulele band whilst at the school. I have played in a ukulele orchestra for a number of years and I established and led a ukulele orchestra at my current school. With its compact size, the ukulele is a reasonably straightforward instrument to play and within a very short space of time, one can start singing songs to simple chords and it is great fun. I would like to raise funds to buy between 10 and 20 ukuleles for the school which would need to include spare strings, bags and music. I hope to be able to buy the instruments in Accra the weekend of my arrival and hope to start music lessons as soon as possible thereafter.
Any contribution to my fundraising campaign would be hugely valued by both me and the Busua Methodist Primary school. I hope to be able to upload photos when i am able, so that i can share the smiles and laughter of children playing ukuleles in their beautiful, sunny yellow school uniforms.
With thanks and gratitude in advance for your support.
