Mi nombre es Sofía Herrera Cué, tengo 22 años y hoy acudo a ustedes para pedir su apoyo en la recuperación de mi salud. Desde octubre del año pasado he estado librando la batalla más difícil tras ser diagnosticada con Enfermedad Renal Crónica en Grado 5, lo que significa que necesito terapia sustitutiva de hemodiálisis hasta que logre mi trasplante.

De la noche a la mañana, mi rutina se transformó por completo entre hospitales, tratamientos y la necesidad de asistir a tres sesiones de hemodiálisis cada semana. Todo este proceso ha sido sumamente desgastante. Mi mamá me ha acompañado y apoyado en todo momento, pero la carga física, psicológica y económica ha sido enorme para mi familia, sumando los costos de transporte y los momentos en que tuvimos que pagar tratamientos en clínicas privadas.

Intenté seguir adelante con mi vida normal, pero debido al desgaste constante, los traslados frecuentes al hospital y la gran cantidad de estudios y citas médicas, me fue imposible mantener un buen rendimiento académico y tuve que tomar la decisión de pausar mis estudios universitarios.

A pesar de lo duro del camino, recibimos una gran noticia: mi hermano resultó ser compatible conmigo y será mi donante de riñón. Tras casi un año de complejos análisis de laboratorio y citas médicas, hemos logrado completar con éxito el protocolo de trasplante en el IMSS y estamos a la espera de la cirugía en los próximos dos meses.

¿Por qué necesito su ayuda hoy?

La operación está cada vez más cerca. Aunque la institución de salud cubre la intervención quirúrgica, la realidad es que esta enfermedad mermó por completo la economía de mi hogar durante todo este año. Enfrentamos gastos muy altos y los costos asociados al trasplante son considerables:

Medicamentos e insumos: Adquisición de fármacos esenciales y tratamientos complementarios que no siempre están disponibles en el hospital. Últimamente hay una escasez generalizada en el IMSS, específicamente de medicamentos inmunosupresores y de patente muy costosos cuyos gastos mensuales pueden alcanzar varios salarios mínimos, volviéndose impagables para mi y mi famila cuando no hay abasto institucional poniendo een riesgo mi proceso de translante.

Adecuaciones en el hogar y traslados: Acondicionar nuestra casa con las condiciones de higiene y el equipamiento necesario para mi cuidado postquirúrgico, además de cubrir los traslados para citas y estudios previos a la cirugía.

Fondo de emergencia y recuperación: Para estar preparados ante cualquier imprevisto médico y cubrir nuestras necesidades básicas durante los meses de reposo postoperatorio, en los que ni mi hermano (donante) ni yo podremos trabajar ni realizar nuestras actividades normales.

No estábamos preparados para un impacto económico de esta magnitud. Por eso acudo a la generosidad de cada uno de ustedes para dar este último paso y salir adelante.

My name is Sofía Herrera Cué; I am 22 years old, and I am reaching out to you today to ask for your support in my journey to regain my health. Since last October, I have been fighting the hardest battle of my life after being diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, which means I require hemodialysis treatment until I can receive a transplant.

Overnight, my routine was completely transformed by hospital visits, medical treatments, and the need to attend three hemodialysis sessions every week. This entire process has been incredibly draining. My mother has stood by me and supported me every step of the way, but the physical, emotional, and financial burden on my family has been immense—especially when factoring in transportation costs and the times we had to pay for treatments at private clinics.

I tried to carry on with my normal life, but due to the constant physical toll, frequent hospital trips, and the sheer volume of medical tests and appointments, maintaining good academic performance became impossible; I had to make the decision to put my university studies on hold.

Despite the difficult journey, we received wonderful news: my brother is a match and will be my kidney donor. After nearly a year of complex lab tests and medical appointments, we have successfully completed the transplant protocol at the IMSS and are awaiting surgery within the next two months.

Why do I need your help today?

The operation is fast approaching. Although the healthcare institution covers the surgery itself, the reality is that this illness has completely depleted my household's finances over the past year. We are facing very high expenses, and the costs associated with the transplant are substantial:

Medications and supplies: Purchasing essential drugs and complementary treatments that are not always available at the hospital. Recently, there has been a widespread shortage at the IMSS—specifically of immunosuppressants and expensive brand-name drugs. Monthly costs for these can amount to several times the minimum wage, making them unaffordable for my family and me when institutional supplies run out, thereby jeopardizing my transplant process.

Home modifications and transportation: Adapting our home to meet the hygiene standards and equipment needs for my post-surgical care, as well as covering transportation costs for pre-surgery appointments and tests.

Emergency and recovery fund: To be prepared for any unforeseen medical issues and cover our basic needs during the months of post-operative recovery, when neither my brother (the donor) nor I will be able to work or carry out our normal activities.

We were not prepared for a financial impact of this magnitude. That is why I am turning to the generosity of each of you to take this final step and move forward.
