Non Profit Organization Somos Puerto Rico Tampa is racing funds to purchase critical humanitarian aid to help earthquake victims of Puerto Rico. Instead of paying thousands of dollars in shipping supplies, the money will go directly into Puerto Rico's economy and at the same time, we will aid the people that need it the most. My mission: My name is Jeannie Calderin and I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. In 1988 I decided to move to Tampa to attend college. Hurricane Maria changed my beautiful island and sadly it change me too. The desperation of not knowing how everyone was made it very difficult. Wondering if our families had survived was in our mind constantly. At this moment, I decided to shift all my worry and energy into something positive and I began this beautiful journey. I got together with a group of volunteers and decided to collect items to sent to Puerto Rico. While doing this I realized that a big number of evacuees were arriving in Florida. I decided to shift gears and started looking for resources to help these families that were arriving to a new place and were completely lost. It has been an amazing journey and I am honored to say that with help from the community, I am seeing very positive results. We are good people helping other people. My goal is to guide these families and give them the right tools so they can succeed. We must work smarter and not harder and with the right guidance and the right tools these families will have a new place to call “home”. I will continue touching lives and making a difference one person at a time. Somos Puerto Rico Tampa is a active 501 (c) (3) non profit organization.
