In January my wife, Ron, was placed in a medically induced coma for nearly two weeks. Since Ron is immunocompromised, a small ingrown hair became infected and quickly developed into a nearly lethal case of necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria). It required two surgeries, and while in his coma he also caught a coronavirus, pneumonia, and over a week of dialysis.

While Ron was hospitalized we lost both of our jobs, and while he was still learning to walk again my car was stolen with his mobility aid inside of it. We couldn’t afford to get my car from where it was towed to, and not long after we were evicted from our apartment.

Since then, we’ve been living in our only car (which has broken down multiple times during this) with our three cats. While we’re lucky to have survived the hottest part of summer, we still have no end to this in sight.
