Hi everyone,

This is really hard for me to put out there but me and diego recently had a big health scare. We had to go into emergency and he ended up being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Initially I did not know if he was going to come back out of emergency and was terrified that I was about to lose him. Thankfully he made it through and he is stable now on his new medications.

Unfortunately this has come with a huge financial burden, he spent two days in emergency and that initial vet visit cost me $6000 plus ongoing costs. He's on monthly medication now, has had follow up bloodwork and urinalysis tests done and will be needing a follow up cardiac ultrasound soon.

As anyone who knows me knows, this dog is my whole heart and soul and I do not know what I would do without him. I am managing as best as I can but the costs have been adding up and this has been a huge hit for me.

I'm just trying to get a bit ahead of things while also trying to keep up with the ongoing costs and preparing for the potential of another emergency if he goes downhill again and has to go back in.

I also wanted to use this as an opportunity to put a small PSA out there for other dog owners: please be extremely cautious with grain free kibble. The most likely cause of diegos heart failure is the grain free food that he has happened to be on for most of his life... overall this has been devastating news for me and if I can help prevent this from happening to anyone else then that alone would make this post worth it ❤️
