This is something we never thought we’d have to do, but we’re here.

2 weeks ago, our sweet boy Ranger was in a scary accident and ended up jumping out of a moving car. He suffered a serious leg fracture and needed emergency surgery right away because it had severed his growth plates.

Of course, we said yes to everything he needed—he’s such a big part of our family, and seeing him hurt was heartbreaking.

Between the surgery, on-going follow-ups, medications and now a small infection that requires additional care, the total has grown to over $10,000. We do have pet insurance, but it only covers a very small portion, leaving us with a significant unexpected expense.

Austin and I are both self-employed, so income can be a bit up and down, and with everything else we already have going on—kids, school expenses, Lilly’s senior year and life—it’s just been a lot all at once. Hard to wrap our minds around.

The good news is Ranger is home, healing, and already trying to act like nothing happened (typical ). He’s currently rocking a very on-theme spring bandage and keeping us on our toes. And his sister, Winnie, is wondering when her brother can run around with her again ‍
