Megan is a 46-year-old mother of three.
On Dec. 10, 2026, she suffered sudden, complete cardiac arrest while at work in her office in Storm Lake. By all accounts, she should not have survived. But that morning, Megan's boss stepped into Megan's office at a time she normally wouldn't-and found Megan unresponsive on the floor.
Everything changed in seconds.
One coworker immediately called 911.
Another-an experienced EMT
immediately began lifesaving chest compressions. A third coworker stood ready to step in if needed.
In any other situation, Megan would have been found too late. Instead, she was stabilized after CPR and shocks. She was rushed to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, then flown to Sioux Falls, where she spent several days in the ICU.
In addition to cardiac trauma, Megan suffered a concussion and now faces extensive testing and multiple surgeries, including the implantation of a pacemaker and defibrillator. At just 46 years old, she is in the early stages of a new job and does not yet have health insurance to cover these costs. Without insurance, the expenses tied to emergency care, hospitalization, testing, and upcoming procedures place a significant financial burden on Megan and her family.
Now, at just 46 years old, Megan is alive because the right people were there at the exact moment it mattered most-but
the road ahead remains long as she navigates her new normal.
