My name is Chenxi, and I am an immigrant visual artist. This past year has been incredibly difficult, and one of the biggest challenges has been my dental health. While I was struggling with my visa situation, one of my teeth cracked and I could no longer chew properly. I had to have it removed and later began the process of getting an implant so I could eat and live normally again.

I tried to protect myself by buying dental insurance, but the dentist miscalculated my coverage and pressured me into an unnecessary deep cleaning, which I had to pay out of pocket. Later, when I finally obtained my visa and returned to Philly, I became the victim of a housing scam. Because of the stress and instability it caused, I missed the window to continue my insurance. Now I am stuck in another waiting period before new coverage can start, and new dental issues keep appearing. This year, because another tooth has shifted downward, I need orthodontics and another implant. As an emerging artist supporting myself in a new country, these costs have become overwhelming. My income is limited, and I am trying to balance basic living expenses with sustaining my art practice. I have been doing everything I can, but the medical bills have reached a level I cannot manage alone.

I am deeply grateful for the friends, teachers, colleagues, family, and gallery members who have supported me through my visa journey, my art, and my daily life. Their encouragement has kept me going.
