It will see a major articulation of the 21st century philosophy and economic change, currently unfolding.
Outcome for Donors: Acknowledgement of Donor’s name (if donor wishes) for paper and book publication.
Abstract: This fundraising appeal seeks support for Dr. Neville Buch, a certified professional historian whose career was profoundly disrupted by a seven-year tenure as a primary carer for his terminally ill wife. Having moved from high-level institutional research to a state of “empty fridge and bank account,” Dr. Buch has transformed personal tragedy into a pioneering intellectual legacy: Spiral Historiography and the Dynamic of Cognition (DoC). He has presented this work (online) at the ISCHE 47 conference in Athens, Greece (July 2026). Your contribution will facilitate the global exchange of an “intellectual immune system” designed to counter the “denoetization” of the digital age and restore Human Authorship over automated systems.

Helping Dr. Neville Buch Reach Athens 2026: A Journey from the Crucible of Care to the Cradle of Wisdom
Who is the story about?
This is the story of Dr. Neville Buch, a scholar who embodies the Aristotelian pursuit of flourishing amidst profound adversity. A Ph.D. graduate of the University of Queensland and a former Research Officer for three Vice-Chancellors, Dr. Buch’s trajectory was violently altered in 2010 by the “Cruel Diagnosis” of his wife, Ruth: a Stage IV brain tumour. For seven years, he lived in a “shared stream of consciousness” as her primary carer, a period of professional marginalization where his vocation shifted from institutional policy to the lived reality of mercy and loss.
What exactly happened?
Rather than succumbing to Passive Nihilism, Dr. Buch used the crucible of care to forge a new mode of thinking. He vowed to be Ruth’s historian, reliving her life through the act of scholarship—a process that birthed Spiral Historiography. This model rejects linear progression to learn from past intellectual errors, providing a roadmap for educational renewal. He has now been accepted to present his findings, "Understanding History as Philosophy in Practice," and lead a pre-conference seminar at the ISCHE 47 conference.
Where did it occur?
Initially, Athens, Greece, the birthplace of Western philosophy. This location is profoundly symbolic for Dr. Buch’s research, which seeks to restore the archetype of the Person and the “inward man” to a world currently lost in a “technical abyss”.
When did it happen?
The conference had taken place from July 14-18, 2026. While Dr. Buch has secured his registration, as an independent researcher who has dedicated his recent years to voluntary community history and local projects like Mapping Brisbane History, he had faced a significant financial barrier even as he no longer requires international travel. He completed the first paid contract since eight years, last month. And now waiting for the next paid contract. Plenty of unpaid contracts.
Why are you starting this GoFundMe?
We are launching this campaign because Dr. Buch’s voice is a necessary antidote to the “immense regression” of our time—the mechanical liquidation of human judgment. By supporting this fund, you are not merely paying for a flight; you are investing in:
• The Reclamation of Human Authorship: Helping prove that human beings can remain the proactive operators of their own stories rather than “puny human nodes” in an automated network.
• A Legacy of Mercy: Supporting a scholar who practices “Thinking as Caring” (panser), applying intellectual rigor to heal the wounds of social fragmentation.
• Global Intellectual Integrity: Ensuring that a unique Australian perspective on Digital Humanism reaches a worldwide audience to help “uncoil” the circles of historical forgetfulness.
Your donation is an act of communicative action, helping a dedicated author move from the isolation of the library basement to a global platform where his message of compassion and critical thinking can drive real change.
