Athens Marathon (the Original) for Developments in Literacy
I am running the Original Marathon (Marathon to Athens) on Sunday 10th November.
The route traces the tale of Pheidippides, an Athenian messenger who ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens to deliver the news of the Persian defeat, inspiring the creation of the modern marathon
I am told it is all uphill from 10-30km. That, along with the limited training I’ve done, will present a challenge.
I’m raising money for Developments in Literacy (DIL), an organisation I’ve been closely involved with and have seen first-hand the transformative impact it has had in Pakistan. It runs 190+ schools with 60,000+ students and a 1% drop-out rate vs 45% national average. 72% of students are girls. Educating girls is the biggest multiplier impact as it transforms generations - an educated woman is 5x more likely to educate their children.
Every little helps and goes a long way! £10 pays for the cost of a student for a month.
