Hello, my name is Alina Provost and I am currently an undergraduate architecture student at UCLA.
I've brought it upon myself to take lead in gathering my classmates to compete in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Design Village. This is an annual architecture competition, giving students the opportunity to build and inhabit a shelter for a weekend. I've never competed in this competition before, but I believe it will be a great way to transform skills learned from the classroom into real-life application.
With this in mind, I asked my professor for the following quarter, if he would be willing to integrate this project into his curriculum. Sadly I was denied. This left me stumped. Fortunately, the department chair encouraged me to create an independent study.
In short, an independent study gives students the ability to create their own classes, as long as; the administration agrees upon the legitimacy of the discourse, and a faculty member who will mentor the student(s).
So once again, I set off to see if I could actualize this goal. I was able to find a professor who was eager and willing to work on it. After meeting with him, I was informed that in order to successfully compete and receive awards, it would take hard work, determination, and (uh-oh) money. With the budget of a college student, this stumped me once more. However, I've gotten this far so why stop now!
My classmates and I need your help to compete by raising $6,000!
It would be an honor to know people out there understand the eagerness of young individuals who want to take all their accumulated knowledge and put it to the test!
What we need:
1. Materials
2. Competition entry fee
3. Transportion to haul the project
Once again, we thank you and your donations! I will be posting a link to this page to show pictures of our final project in the fields of SLO’s Design Village arena.
