UNCW Spring Break in Patagonia
Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and everyone else! My name is Shoshana Green, and I am a junior at UNCW studying Recreation, Sport Leadership, and Tourism Management. I first started here at UNCW as an Environmental Science major, interested in the outdoors, parks and recreation, and conservation. Although my interests have not changed, I realized that the Recreation Department highlighted those interests more so than the other.
Through this change, I have been introduced to many interesting and wonderful opportunities that I would never have seen had I not changed my major. Many of these opportunities involve traveling to other parts of North Carolina, like the North Carolina Coastal Issues class I took last summer. During this class I was able to go up and down the coast and through the Outer Banks learning about how the environment is affected by recreation and vice versa. Of course, after taking a class that consisted of camping, kayaking, and learning applicable information about the environment, I had to have more.
I recently was offered the opportunity to study abroad in Patagonia over spring break this coming semester. Counting as two classes for the semester, this trip is an experience of a lifetime. Like my coastal issues class, this trip offers students an applicable and insightful look into leisure, recreation, and environmental issues in other countries. In Patagonia, we will be immersed in the culture and be participating in a five-day backpacking adventure through the mountains.
As someone who has never been out of the country and adores absorbing what nature has to offer, this type of trip is like a dream come true for me. I have never been more determined to take a class than I have with this study abroad escapade. However, the fees for the class itself, as well as airfare, totals to $4,000 and must be paid in full by January. Although I would love to say that I can make that money on my own, it is hard to come up with that amount without getting some help.
That’s where you all come in. Any donation is a wonderful donation and I would not ask for it unless I truly needed it. I want to take this class more than anything and would be extremely grateful to anyone that would be willing to donate for me. Thank you all!
