Uncovering the Truth: Support FOIA Request Costs

Friends, I am attempting to raise $555 to pay for a FOIA request to uncover a suspicious relationship between Grand Rapids Public Schools and The Safe K12 Group.

I submitted a FOIA request in early May asking for any communication between GRPS staff and The Safe K12 Group. The request generated enough information that the district is charging me $553.17 to fulfill my request.

Why did I make this request, you ask? Because the GRPS Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Safety and Security is Larry Johnson. Larry Johnson is also the CEO and Founder of The Safe K12 Group. Safe K12 is a school safety and security consulting firm.

I am highly suspicious of a financial relationship between the district and Safe K12. The number of documents and the time it will take to fulfill my request is generating a charge of more than $500, which only furthers my suspicion.

I do not have an extra $500 to pay for these documents, so I am asking for your help to obtain this information so the public can rest assured that our publicly funded school district is not involved in any corrupt spending practices.
