A Stage 3 Colon Cancer Bombshell. My Uncle, Mike Shannon and his family has had just days to adjust to this heart wrenching news that included the word no one likes to hear...CANCER let alone stage 3. Being self employed for over a decade has him and his family in a very dificult financial situation after being faced with such devistating news. Although they do have health insurance it is very poor. It will not come close to covering the immense financial burden they will be facing to ensure he receives the necessary treatment to save his life. As well as hopefully limit the financial burden and stress that occurs when unexpectedly faced with something like this. Mike is still currently hospitalized after an emergency surgery to remove 12 inches of his intestines. A surgery that was not planned and a diagnosis following that surgery that no one could have fathomed. Once he can return home he will have a stoma with a colostomy bag, require emergency dental surgery before his chemo treatments can begin, aggressive chemo treatments over an extended period of time, in home medical care by a medical professional and a pleather of day to day things to manage his overall care. This on top of their normal day to day expenses, bills, food and housing. All the while going from a two person self employed business to a one person self employed business. Mike, undeniably, will be incapable of working which will leave the burden of maintaining their family business on my Aunt alone. The mental encumbrance of guilt and helplessness that no matter how hard everyone will try to prevent, chances are Mike will experience. Which he definately does not need at such a critical time in his life. That is the purpose for this go fund me campaign. I so desperately hope to alleviate some of the financial stressors and burdens that they will be facing over the course of the next several months. More importatntly, I do not want any financial inabilities to impact Mike's care, treatment or potential outcome of his battle against cancer.

My Aunt Carolyn (Mikes wife) and Uncle Mike (age 52) have been self employed for 12 years trying to raise their children and live day to day in a small quaint area of Garrett County, Maryland. Their unprecedented 30 year long marriage in this day in age has withstood the test of time. It has granted the two of them to share many memories with what they both consider to be their best friend...eachother. Mike has always had an adorning love for children and between the two of them they raised three...Josh 31, Brittany 28 and Tyler 21. God has also blessed their family with five grandbabies all of which are boys. The first girl grandbaby is on her way, due in the next couple months, making a grandtotal of six. That little girl will undoubtedly be her Pappy's princess and inadvertently without even trying play a huge role in Mike's mission to beat this. Thank you all in advance! Thank you for reading this.
