Uncle Fred's Dead- a student short film by Maddie Wharton

Uncle Fred is dead. But who was Uncle Fred?

My 15-minute comedy-drama targets a 16-25 year old British audience and is set in the early 90s in a rural town up north.

The concept behind my short film follows Mike and Jon on a journey to collect the belongings and ashes of a man whom they’ve never met after receiving a call telling them he’s dead.

My name is Maddie Wharton, and I'm a 21-year-old Media Production student studying at LJMU in Liverpool. I'm reaching out to ask for support with funding my short film and to help cover the costs of:

and the overall production of the piece, to help assert the authenticity of the era as well as the creative vision for the film.

Credit within the film will be offered to all supporters, and the largest contributors will be entitled to associate or executive producer credit.

This short film focuses on the comedic and sentimental encounters of the two young men, bringing light to what would normally be a more taboo subject, expressing themes of grief, youth and nostalgia but in a lighthearted setting.

My film encompasses the importance of storytelling through the character Fred and what the men come to learn about him when they walk into his empty room to collect his belongings at the end of the film.

~~~
I am making this film to relive a tale told to me by a close family member. This story interested me greatly, and I felt it needed representing in a way that justified both the young men's experience after the death and what their comedic encounters were in the events after it, as well as being a way to retell elements of Fred’s story too/ what Fred
represents- a man whose story is fading and was almost forgotten.
Please join me in supporting my directorial debut, as well as giving a platform to a story that will make you laugh, cry, and that deserves to be told.
