Alex Cannon was in a horrible head on collision Tuesday June 1st around 1am while moving his family to Colorado Springs. He was the last car in a 4 car /U haul /truck caravan with his family. His mom saw a accident in her side view mirror so she stopped to help. She didn't realize the 2nd car was her baby boy until she rounded the smashed front of a unrecognizable car that was on fire. People stopped and poured water on the fire, they aided in saving Alex's life. Kara and Dave Cannon lived their worst nightmare on Tuesday night, not only did one of their children get into an awful car accident but they saw a trauma that will be etched in their minds forever. Kara is a Registered Nurse and was able to deliver the needed care until help arrived. Alex miraculously was coherent when he saw his Mom. He knew who she was immediately and asked what happened. First responders had to use the jaws of life to remove him from the vehicle. Alex sustained massive injuries but he is as tough as they come and is recovering. Both of his femurs were broken. His pelvis, sternum, and clavicle all have breaks and fractures. He was bleeding internally from damage to his colon. One hip pushed through his skin, he has some bruising and scratches over his arms and face. Alex had surgery on Tuesday to place external pins in his femurs and remove a small piece of his bruised colon. He was moved out of the ICU on Friday. He is in need of another surgery to place more pins in his femurs as soon as his body recovers a bit from the trauma he has endured. The pain is excruciating, today was the first day they were able to find a regiment of medication that gave him a bit of relief so he can rest.
I am starting this GoFund me because Alex is a college student who just quit his job at In-n-Out Burger to move his family to Colorado. He attended A&M Corpus but was going to attend UTA in the fall. He currently does not have medical insurance due to job adjustments for his family to make the move to Colorado. The timing of this horrible accident hit at an awful time for this tight knit family. Alex was part of the In-n-Out Burger family for almost three years. He is the youngest of three kids, Kaylee and Diana are devastated and heart broken watching their little brother endure so much pain and uncertainty. He is an amazing Uncle to Jonathan and Wyatt who lovingly call him Uncle Allie. His 7 year old nephew was his copilot at the beginning of the drive. Thank God Jonathan switched cars prior to the accident. Alex's biggest concern after the accident was that Jonathan was not in the car. Alex has no memory of what happened and was trying to remember if Jonathan was in the car at the time of the collision.
He is at Northwest Texas hospital in Amarillo. The family made it about half way to Colorado Springs when the accident occurred South of Dalhart Texas. There is so much uncertainty right now. The expenses are adding up extremely fast and aggressively. Dave and Kara have not left Alex's side. They try to rest at a hotel near the hospital. At this moment they do not know how they will get Alex to Colorado comfortable to recover. The hospital mentioned that medical transportation will be difficult without medical insurance.
This is a special family. They are my family!!! My family has spent almost every holiday with them for the last 3 years and our family trips are priceless and an absolute blast. My son Isaia will marry Diana next summer with Alex standing with them at the alter. Kaylee will marry her fiance James soon. It will be celebrations of love, life, and family. God wanted Alex on this earth. I saw the car that was in the collision. Isaia and I cleaned their belongings out of it midday Tuesday. It was the most surreal moment in Isaia and I's life. Alex's life was spared by a little cubby in the drivers seat of his mom Honda Accord. Alex has a long tough road to recover but he is going to do it like a badass.
