We are the UNC Chapel Hill MFA Acting (PATP) Class of 2028. We're raising money in hopes of funding our showcase to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Chapel Hill.

Our home

We have loved performing for the audiences at PlayMakers, and we still do. Through so many different shows, we've gotten to know the people who fill those seats: the regulars, the students, the neighbors, and the families who make this community what it is. Chapel Hill has been more than a place where we train. It's been a home for the six of us.

Our time here isn't officially ending yet, but we know it's coming. This showcase is how we carry this community's love with us, and how we take what it has helped us become into the rooms where our careers will begin.

Why we need to be in the room

Like so many programs, our path was shaped by COVID and the shift to digital showcases. A screen can show a casting director our work, but it can't show them who we are. Now that we're a few years past that moment, we want to bring back the personal connection that only happens when people can experience our work live and meet us face to face.

Every one of us has dedicated ourselves to graduate training in the hope of building lasting relationships in this field. Without in-person moments, those relationships are so hard to start. It's hard to find representation from agents and managers, hard to be seen by casting directors, and hard to shake the feeling of starting from the bottom, even after all the work it took to get here.

An in-person showcase changes that. It puts the six of us in the cities where we hope to build our careers, in front of the people who can help us do it. And we're bringing the showcase home to Chapel Hill too, so the people who've supported us here can be in the room.

Why now

Our second year is one of the most important parts of our training. The choices we make now shape our third year, including showcase, industry week, and our work for PlayMakers. The earlier we can plan and give industry professionals notice, the stronger the showcase we can build. Every month we wait makes it harder.
