Unborn Baby With Spina Bifida Needs Help

Donation protected
What would it be like to be in the hospital living without your spouse and children for 3 months? That's exactly what Cami and Joseph are experiencing right now. Back in April, what should have been and exciting ultrasound to find out the gender of their 5th baby, Joseph and Cami were hit with devastating news. Their baby boy had the most severe form of spina bifida and brain herniation. It was discussed that the pregnancy should be terminated. In no way was that option considered. Immediately Joseph started researching what could be done to help their baby. That's when he found CHOP.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is the leading hospital for in utero fetal surgery. Within 2 weeks they had passed all the tests to be the perfect candidate for this surgery. The only problem was the location and price. It was out of network for their insurance. At first their insurance said they wouldn't cover the surgery but it was eventually approved. So they made arrangements to move Cami to Philadelphia and scheduled family to spend 1 week at a time with her until the end of July when the baby would be delivered by c-section.  After a successful surgery to close the skin over the spinal cord, the brain herniation started to reverse.  Then devastating news hit again...the insurance’s promise to cover expenses reversed also. Insurance will not cover their astronomical expenses and their medical bills have skyrocketed to over $88,000 and climbing.

When the baby is born he will need to be in the NICU for a few months and will possibly need more surgeries. At a time when Cami and Joseph need to focus on their family, bond with baby and heal, the last thing they need is to worry about medical expenses. In efforts to ease the stress and burdens placed upon them we need your help. To our friends, family, and our communities near and far, please consider helping Cami and Joseph’s family by donating to their medical expenses. If a monetary donation is too much, please consider offering much needed  prayers, good wishes, positive thoughts and love. Thank you so much for your consideration.

More Info: Spina Bifida - Meningomyelocele

The spinal cord on his lower back was exposed and leaking spinal fluid causing his brain to be compressed down into the spinal canal. This also causes excessive fluid to build up in his brain.  This injury causes all sorts of problems ranging from paralysis, wheelchair for life, bladder and bowel malfunction, neurological damage in the brain and even stillbirth.
