Ximena Valentina tiene 12 años, un corazón inmenso y muchas ganas de seguir respirando.

 

Quienes la conocen saben que además de ser la hermanita más pequeña de la familia, también es una niña dulce, inteligente, bondadosa y con una sonrisa que ilumina nuestros días y que no queremos se apague por no poder respirar.

 

Desde el día de su nacimiento Ximena tuvo problemas respiratorios que resultaron en la extracción total de su pulmón izquierdo. (Sí, así es, ella tiene solo 1 pulmón) Y si bien hoy en día existen atletas que tienen la misma condición, ella ha enfrentado limitaciones a lo largo de su vida para realizar actividades físicas en general. Hace unos meses comenzó a sentir extrema fatiga con mínimo esfuerzo: caminar al comedor para almorzar en familia o incluso al estar acostada viendo sus programas favoritos. (¿Se imaginan sentir eso? ser un niño y sentirte exhausto solamente con existir por no poder respirar bien ) La llevamos con su Dr especialista en sistema respiratorio quien pidió hacerle una radiografía del tórax y nos dio la noticia que Ximena padece de una escoliosis de 50 grados (deformación/desviación de la columna vertebral que le da un aspecto de "S" en vez de una línea recta) y una compresión de la caja torácica del lado izquierdo debido al espacio vacío que dejó su pulmón izquierdo. Ambos diagnósticos son causantes de la presión que ella siente en su pecho y que le dificulta respirar con tranquilidad.

El siguiente paso para ayudar con su respiración es realizar una operación para corregir su columna. La misma debe hacerse lo más pronto posible para evitar que se dañen otros órganos importantes como su corazón. Luego de evaluar las opciones médicas en Guatemala, sus padres lograron ponerse en contacto con el Mount Sinai Kravis Children´s Hospital en Nueva York que están mucho más avanzados en la tecnología y este tipo de procedimientos para ofrecer una cirugía menos invasiva/arriesgada. A pesar de ya haber recibido un descuento por parte del hospital y el doctor, el presupuesto de la operación aún asciende a US$170,000.

 

Como familia estamos buscando diferentes formas de obtener el dinero pero creemos en el buen corazón de la gente que está dispuesta a ayudar. Por eso vengo el día de hoy en nombre de toda la familia a pedirles su colaboración ya sea donando y/o compartiendo esta información para poder ayudar a alcanzar la meta que sabemos no es fácil para nadie.

Ximena Valentina is 12 years old, has a big heart and big desires to keep breathing.

 

Those who have met her know that besides being the smallest sister in the family, she's also a sweet, intelligent, noble girl and has the biggest smile that lights our world. We wish that smile never fades away because of her not being able to breathe.

 

When she was born, she had some complications with her respiratory system resulting in a complete extraction of her left lung. (Yes, she only has one lung) There are some athletes today with the same condition; however she has encountered limitations while doing any sports activities all her life. A couple of months ago, she started complaining of extreme fatigue doing common activities such as walking to the dining room to have lunch with the family or even just lying down watching her favorite shows. (Imagine living like that, being a kid and feeling exhausted just from existing as you can ́t breathe properly ) We took her to the Dr, who is a specialist in the respiratory system and he asked for an x-ray from her thorax and then gave us the news that Ximena has severe scoliosis (deformity/deviation of the vertebral column, which gives it the shape of an "S" instead of being straight) and that her thoracic cage is compressed on the left side because of the hollow space her left lung left. Both diagnoses are causing pressure in her chest which leaves her feeling pain and difficulty breathing.

 

The next step to help improve her breathing is a surgery to fix her column. That procedure must be done as soon as possible to prevent further damage to other vital organs such as her heart. After evaluating the medical options here in Guatemala, her parents were able to contact Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital in New York, who are more advanced in technology and this type of procedure so they offer less invasive/risky surgeries. Even though the hospital and doctor already provided a discount, the budget still goes up to US$170,000.

 

We´re looking for other options to help raise the money however, we believe in the good heart of people that are willing to help. I am asking in the name of all the family for your help donating and/or sharing this information to reach out to more people that´ll help us reach the goal that we know isn't easy for anyone.
