A new miracle for Chandra

My name is Jennifer Moscat and I currently live in the United States. Five years ago, my beloved friends, Gabriela Odreman and Jose Leonardo Pineda made a decision that changed their lives. After several years of misdiagnosis, their daughter Chandra was diagnosed legally deaf with a severe hearing loss in her right ear and a moderate impairment in her left ear. This news to their family was both a concern and relief knowing that their daughter could be set on the path of improvement and they were able to help and be there with her.

During this time their family, friends, coworkers and even members of the public helped them collect the funds Chandra needed for her surgery. They were finally giving her the opportunity to hear like we do. Chandra’s confidence within herself began to flourish; she slowly started to speak in public, formed a love for ballet and flamenco and made new friends with her newly found confidence. All thanks to her cochlear implant and the opportunity they could provide her.

This was a time when their country was in a better condition than it is today; where they were able to seek medical aide without concern and not risk the daily dangers on their streets and rapid decline in their country´s economy.  Because of the crisis that they are living, is very hard to find any kind of medicine of treatments for children or adults that are suffering for a health condition.

Sadly, on the 22nd of June, Chandra had a small injury in the back of her ear, she received private medical assistance for one month but unfortunately the implant was exposed, and a bacterium contaminated her ear and the intern implant. She went into surgery to get the implant out to avoid further complications but after the surgery she is not able to hear.

I have known Gaby and Leo for more than 15 years and as a special anecdote, Gaby and I shared the pregnancy of our daughters, Chandra and Isabella, for that reason and given the serious situation in Venezuela, I offered my help to organize this campaign and help them to raise the $ 15,500 that is required to buy the new cochlear implant and get her into surgery in October this year.

The implant was a miracle in her life. Please help them to make this miracle possible again.

Un nuevo milagro para Chandra

Mi nombre es Jennifer Moscat Calderón y vivo actualmente en los Estados Unidos.  Hace 5 años, mis queridos amigos Gabriela Odreman y José Leonardo Pineda, tomaron una decisión que cambió la vida de su hija Chandra y por ende la de ellos como padres: le dieron la oportunidad de escuchar gracias a un implante coclear. Chandra fue diagnosticada después de varios años de diagnósticos errados, con una hipoacusia bilateral profunda en su oído derecho y moderada a severa en su oído izquierdo. Para entonces muchos familiares, amigos, compañeros de trabajo e incluso desconocidos, nos unimos para que pudieran recaudar en muy poco tiempo todo el dinero para implantarla. En ese momento, en Venezuela se podían adquirir dólares a tasa preferencial cuando se trataba de algún caso de salud y eso facilitó enormemente la compra del implante.

Desde entonces y con muchísimo esfuerzo y trabajo, los avances de Chandra fueron inmensos e impresionantes. Empezó a adquirir lenguaje rápidamente, comenzó a bailar ballet y luego flamenco, inició sus estudios en un colegio regular, cambió su personalidad y su forma de integrarse y desarrollarse socialmente, está alfabetizada... Todo gracias a que finalmente pudo escuchar!

El pasado 22 de junio, a razón de una pequeñísima herida detrás de la oreja, una bacteria contaminó su implante interno; a pesar de todos los tratamientos que sus padres hicieron durante un mes y medio para atacar la bacteria, el implante se expuso y hubo que operarla para extraerlo y así proteger su salud de posibles complicaciones. En la actualidad Chandra no escucha bien pero está recuperada y gracias a Dios, pueden implantarla de nuevo... Lo malo es que el implante interno es sumamente costoso... Especialmente en la Venezuela actual.

Conozco a Gaby y a Leo desde hace más de 15 años y como anécdota especial, Gaby y yo compartimos el embarazo de nuestras hijas, Chandra e Isabella, por ello y dada la grave situación de Venezuela, ofrecí mi ayuda para organizar esta campaña y así recaudar los U$ 15.500 que son requeridos para comprar el implante y operar a Chandra el próximo mes de octubre.

Cualquier ayuda, por pequeña que sea, cuenta para que Chandra escuche de nuevo y continúe su rehabilitación. El implante coclear fue un milagro en su vida... Por favor, ayúdennos a hacerle posible su milagro de nuevo.
